Last week we launched the Charlie clog. I thought it might be fun to share some of the behind-the-scenes photos from our little adventure in North Beach.
Ingrid, Shikha and I grabbed a couple lattes in the morning and headed across the city to North Beach. I thought it would be interesting to shoot the Charlie in this historic neighborhood, and I was looking forward to spending the day goofing around with my friends, and creating some nice images.
During these kinds of shoots, I usually have an idea of the look and feel of the shoot. I ask the 'models' to bring some of their own clothes, and then I also raid my closet. Over the years, I've found I prefer it when our photos and reels look like real outfits- rather than aspirational looks. So I always ask myself, how am I actually going to wear these clogs? That question took me to simple jeans, a cozy sweater and a light jacket. My Spring uniform basically!
We started out on Grant street. Grant is one of those really special streets in San Francisco that's held onto an independent and defiant vibe. In a dream, we would have a little BRYR shop there. It's lined with vintage map shops, rowdy bars and famous cafes. It was early in the morning, so pretty quiet and we slipped into Caffee Trieste, ordered a couple cappucinos and a carrot cake- and snapped a couple photos.
Ingrid and Shikha are good friends of mine- and they have been besties for over 20 years. I think there fun and love for one another comes through in the photos and I love that.
If you're visiting San Francisco and plan to visit North Beach, here are a few classic spots to check out:
